Ah, ‘tis the holiday season. A season of fun, family, delicious food, festive parties, thoughtful presents, and sure, maybe a bit of extra stress. For many homeowners, the holidays mark a time to stand out in the neighborhood, showcasing their homes with gorgeous lights and decorations. Many homeowners will choose to decorate their garages, hanging lights and festive decorations over their garage doors.

The results of decorating your garage door are beautiful! However, if not done carefully, decorations can harm the surfaces of your beautiful garage door. Tip #1: Magnets

Will your garage door hold magnets? Simple stars for Christmas, Hanukah, or New Year’s make for beautiful decorations, and when backed with magnets, can be stellar (pun intended!) exterior decorations. If your garage is made of steel, it may hold magnets well, making this a great solution for hanging magnets without the damage.

Tip #2: Skip the Nails; Try Clips Instead

Thinking of hanging lights? Nails or staples can damage your trim and the insulation around the wiring. If you don’t have a steel garage door and can’t use magnets, the best, damage-free way to hang lights or decorations is by using light clips.

Consider, for example, these Outdoor Light Clips. Clips like these don’t require nails or screws; instead, they use an adhesive that offers damage-free removal from surfaces.

Tip #3: Hang Lights from the Gutters

We don’t usually think of our gutters as having an aesthetic purpose, but now’s their time to shine! If your gutters are sitting above the garage door, try hanging lights from the gutters using the light clips suggested in Tip #2.
